1.
Explain the global structure of multimedia with block diagram.[10]

Global Structure of Multimedia with Block Diagram

Multimedia is the integration of multiple forms of media — such as text, audio, video, graphics, and animation — into a single interactive system to convey information effectively.

Components of Global Structure of Multimedia

A. Input Devices

  • Keyboard & Mouse — for text and navigation input
  • Microphone — for capturing audio
  • Camera/Webcam — for capturing video and images
  • Scanner — for digitizing printed documents and photos

B. Processing System

  • CPU — performs all computations and controls data flow
  • Multimedia Software — authoring tools like Adobe Flash, Director
  • Compression/Decompression — reduces file size for storage and transmission (e.g., JPEG, MPEG)
  • Editing Tools — for editing text, audio, video, and graphics

C. Output Devices

  • Monitor/Display — shows visual output (text, graphics, video, animation)
  • Speakers/Headphones — produce audio output
  • Printer — provides hard copy output
  • Projector — for large-screen presentations

D. Storage System

  • Stores large multimedia files
  • Examples: Hard Disk Drive (HDD), CD-ROM, DVD, Blu-ray, USB drives, Cloud Storage
  • Multimedia requires large storage capacity due to heavy file sizes of audio and video

E. Communication/Network

  • Enables distribution and sharing of multimedia content
  • Internet allows streaming, video conferencing, and online multimedia delivery
  • Uses protocols like TCP/IP, HTTP, RTP for data transmission
  • Supports both wired and wireless communication

How the Global Structure Works Together

  • Input devices capture raw media (sound, images, video, text)
  • The processing system digitizes, compresses, edits, and integrates multiple media types
  • Processed multimedia is saved in the storage system
  • Output is delivered through output devices for user interaction
  • The network/communication layer allows multimedia to be shared across the globe

Conclusion

The global structure of multimedia is a combination of input, processing, output, storage, and communication subsystems working together. This structure enables the creation, manipulation, storage, and delivery of rich multimedia content to users across various platforms and devices.
